- THE TALE OF THE SILVER SAUCER AND THE TRANSPARENT APPLE.
- Says the eldest, "I'd like a necklace, but it must be a rich one."
- Says the second, "I want a new dress with gold hems."
- Says the first, "Give me your transparent apple."
- Says the second, "Give me your silver saucer."
- And they wail and lament aloud,--
- And the whistle-pipe sang again:--
- SADKO.
- FROST.
- At night she said to the old man,--
- Suddenly they cried out together,--
- And together they replied, shivering,--
- He leant down, looking through the branches, and asked,--
- In the morning the old woman says to her husband,--
- THE FOOL OF THE WORLD AND THE FLYING SHIP.
- BABA YAGA.
- And old Peter put down his pipe and began:--
- BABA YAGA AND THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE KIND HEART.
- Baba Yaga came to the window and asked,--
- THE CAT WHO BECAME HEAD-FORESTER.
- And she came up and made her bows to the cat, and said,--
- SPRING IN THE FOREST.
- THE LITTLE DAUGHTER OF THE SNOW.
- This is what she sang:--
- She called out from the tree,--
- But they heard her laughing, and they heard her song:--
- Vanya thought for a minute, and then he said,--
- PRINCE IVAN, THE WITCH BABY, AND THE LITTLE SISTER OF THE SUN.
- He climbed a little further, and the old woman screamed out,--
- LITTLE MASTER MISERY.
- An old man hobbling along the road answered them,--
- A CHAPTER OF FISH.
- The silly roach said, "Let us kill the pike."
- THE GOLDEN FISH.
- WHO LIVED IN THE SKULL?
- ALENOUSHKA AND HER BROTHER.
- THE FIRE-BIRD, THE HORSE OF POWER, AND THE PRINCESS VASILISSA.
- The horse of power spoke and said,--
- He went into the palace, and bowed before the Tzar and said,--
- The young archer rose and bowed before her. Says he,--
- THE HUNTER AND HIS WIFE.
- THE THREE MEN OF POWER--EVENING, MIDNIGHT, AND SUNRISE.
- And the three lovely princesses all begged him at once,--
- They came to the King, bowed low before him, and said,--
- Evening answered him, laughing,--
- SALT.
- To Ivan they said, "Thanks be to God, He has given you good trading."
- THE CHRISTENING IN THE VILLAGE.
- And the Volga said, "Very well, if only you will stop talking."
- THE END.
