- I was stark naked. It was my debut in the nudist world.
- He opened one eye uncertainly. "Huh? Whaz-zis--"
- I looked at my watch, the only thing I was wearing. "Half past seven."
- Joanie said softly, "Let's get up now, Mr. Meehan. It's breakfast time."
- I frowned. "Right here?"
- I said to Joanie, "Even the employees are nudists around here, eh?"
- After a long silence he said, "Al?"
- Meehan scrambled to his feet and said, "Coming up front, Al?"
- She said, "We'd better get up. It would be a shame to miss lunch."
- He shrugged. "I like a challenge."
- I was rocked.
- Bonnie said, "Janey, is your father home?"
- I watched that redhead while waiting for Bonnie, and an idea took shape.
- I headed back to my cabin to wait for the dinner gong.
- She whirled. "Oh--Al!"
- She said in a low voice, "Thanks, Al."
- She said, "What's wrong, Al?"
- I shrugged. "Nothing."
- I stubbed out my cigarette. "You poor kid."
- I scowled. "Think it'll take long? I don't want to be late for lunch."
- Sandra said, "Are you having a good time here so far?"
- I backed out the door. "Nix, Sandra. I'm hungry."
- When they were gone, Sandra said, "Race you to the mess hall."
- Meehan laughed. "Man, are _you_ living it up!"
- I would begin Chapter One tomorrow, I told myself.
- But here--
- I told her. She smiled. "That's what I thought," she said.
- I looked at her, aghast. "Am I supposed to?"
- I shook my head. "Tonight's my night for celibacy."
- I drifted off to sleep.
- I listened to the creaking.
- I hated her.
- She groaned. She moaned. "Do it to me, Al! Give me everything!"
- She smiled. "Why don't you try?"
- I knew who I wanted to chase, too. Only she couldn't be reached.
- I loved her.
- Joanie was there. She called out, "Hurry up, Al! You're the tenth man."
- She grinned. "Nice play, Al."
- I didn't reply.
- I looked shamefacedly at Joanie. She was smiling.
- But Joanie saw me. She waved. "Al! Al, would you come here?"
- I grasped her breasts good and hard.
- I shoved.
- I said, "You know, you aren't supposed to wear bikinis on camp grounds."
- He looked up. "That new one is nice."
- He said, "The Carter woman admitted lying about the rape incident."
- I ran out into the rain.
- She laughed. "Whoa! Let me answer those before you ask any more."
- Her face darkened, and she said with some difficulty, "They're--dead."
- I was on my way to success.
- I started to turn away. But I heard sounds coming from within.
- I said through the door, "Are you okay, Lorraine?"
- I decided to chance it. I pushed the door open and walked in.
- I passed the mess hall and started down the road to the cabins.
- I heard a scream.
- I started to run.
- I practically collided with Riccio.
- I began to walk uncertainly down the road toward the cabins.
- I was alone.
- I said, "What's with Riccio?"
- She said quietly, "Al?"
- I frowned. "Sorry about what?"
- But Joanie went on, "I was cruel this morning, Al."
- I nodded. "I'm okay. How's Naomi?"
