SANTA CLAUS [_who has just come down the chimney_]. Ho! Ho!
What’s this? Crying? At Christmas time?
OLD LADY [_sobs_]. Oh, I didn’t think you were coming at all;
it got so late. So I thought I would play _Mrs._ Santa Claus.
But my only son is away. So what’s the use? I thought surely he
would come home for Christmas.
SANTA CLAUS [_puts his arm about her_]. Never mind. You come
along with me. I need a Mrs. Santa Claus to help me distribute
the gifts. Perhaps we’ll come across your son in our travels.
SANTA CLAUS _and_ OLD LADY _exit joyously and enter sleigh at
door_.
