2101. (1.) The apodosis of verbs of ability, duty, &c. (1495-1497),
including the gerundive with #sum#, is often in the indicative, the
imperfect taking the place of the imperfect or pluperfect subjunctive,
and the perfect that of the pluperfect subjunctive. But the subjunctive
is also found, especially #possem# rather than #poteram#.
