M. Maunier states that his valuable “bibliography” “exclura les
documents publiques ou privées dont le recensement voudrait un travail
special” (p. XII).
There is an official “Records Office”—but not a Public Records
Office—in the Citadel of Cairo. As far as I have been able to find
out—the contents are not catalogued—it mainly contains title-deeds,
and old administrative and judicial documents. The King of Egypt is
said to possess a large collection of political documents, mostly
written in Turkish and relating especially to the wars of Ibrahim
Pasha. I have been informed that these documents are in the course of
being translated into Arabic.
