- I began, lamely, “We came, of course—”
- I hesitated. “Nothingness,” I ventured finally.
- I sat up, blinking, shivering, to find Dr. Weatherby standing before me.
- I turned and followed Dr. Weatherby to the instrument room.
- I clung to my reeling wits.
- I sat beside him. “What is our velocity now?”
- I sat motionless, tense. It might have been minutes, or an hour.
- I leaned over the balcony. “There is no change. Come up, Ren.”
- I said, more gently, “What are you girls planning to do, Sonya?”
- I repeated, “What are you planning to do?”
- I yielded, “All right, Sonya. You know best.”
- I waited a moment. “Sonya, you girls are not armed?”
- I plunged forward down the hillock path. The crowd scattered before me.
- I nodded and disconnected. Sonya was calling me.
- I turned to my aerial and gave the order for a general attack.
- I passed over our line, ordering Jim to remain inactive.
