- His face went gray, and he whispered, "I could go back to writing...."
- Derrence blinked. "Yes ... how about today?"
- Derrence relaxed quite suddenly. "Twelve o'clock. Come by here?"
- Tzadi nodded. "Whatever you say, Der."
- Tzadi looked at him. "Twenty thousand."
- Again Tzadi smiled. "Now, Der, you wouldn't believe me if I told you."
- Tzadi said, "How much would you consider equitable?"
- Derrence stared at Tzadi. "Then what can I possibly do?"
- The waiter looked at him. "Truly, sir?"
- He stopped. He looked at her; looked hard. "Yes."
- Her head stayed down. "What ... what did he say?"
- Derrence took a deep breath. "Yes."
- Derrence raised his eyes from Tzadi. "Dismantled?"
- The voice grew curt. "Anything else you'd like to know?"
