L. 11. _aux axes de tes chars._ Lat. _axis_ (Fr. _axe_) is properly
Fr. _essieu_ (from Lat. _axiculus_), Eng. _axle_ which has also been
sometimes replaced by _axis_. (The O. E. word was _ax_ (_æx_), related
to Lat. _axis_.) But here _axe_ is used, as in Latin, for _roue_, i.e.
'wheel.' See also note p. 65, XI, l. 2.
