L. 102. _la main hospitalière_, with the definite article, not '_ta_
main...,' as has sometimes been printed, nor, as the more current
phrase runs, '_une_ main.' The beggar is then made to use, as it were,
a technical phrase, to name a well-known rite. In the same way we say
'_the_ kiss of peace,' '_the_ stirrup-cup.'
