- The Keeper paused. "What is it, Wolf?"
- The Keeper hesitated, torn. "The Donation--"
- Tropile said harshly: "I wish to see the new sun from the street."
- She wailed: "Glenn, are you sure I'm doing the right thing?"
- The Pyramid on Mount Everest "stirred."

- Tropile stood poised, hands half-clenched. "Take--"
- Tropile ventured: "The flood ruined the road?"
- Haendl said: "Take the tractor if you need it."
- Haendl only looked at him and said: "Come on!"
- Tropile said, faintly annoyed: "You were damn near too late."
- He said: "You can put away the gun, Haendl. You've signed me up."

- Haendl glowered at him. "That's the part we don't understand."

- Tropile was "wired into circuit."

- He began formally: "I give you greeting, Citi--"
- His wife nodded. "She is resting. I will call her."

- Swallowing hard, Germyn said: "I just remembered. That man Harmane--"
- Germyn said levelly: "I believe you to be Wolf."
- Germyn asked thoughtfully: "And if you were _you_?"

- The first voice said: "Can't be helped. Hey! Are you all right?"
- Haendl looked at him with savage amusement. "Shoot."
- Citizen Germyn said: "Please, Citizen. Tell me what this is all about."
- Haendl demanded: "Such as what?"
- Haendl laughed raucously. "That's Joey."

- The Alla-Narova mind said sharply: "Glenn, come back!"
