This book was written in a period when many words had not become
standardized in their spelling. Words may have multiple spelling
variations or inconsistent hyphenation in the text.
Words and phrases in italics are surrounded by underscores, _like
this_; Astrisms are displayed thus: ⁂. Final stops missing at the end
of sentences and abbreviations were added. Duplicate words at line
endings or page breaks were removed. When used to preserve space in
the original, lower case letters were replaced with capital letters,
and the word “by” was added, where omitted. Misspelled book titles and
authors’ names were corrected. In the original, bold font was used for
authors’ names, book titles and book prices.
