been retained, but punctuation and typographical errors have been
corrected.
The footnotes in the preface (pp. 1-22) have been placed below their
respective paragraphs. They have been assigned alphabetical symbols
([A]-[C]). Endnotes, which have been placed at the end of the main
text, have been arranged by using consecutive numbers ([1]-[23]).
