The Pioneer v1928

_HE marked a trail across the plains

In days now long ago.

He spared no labor and no pains,

Although the work was slow.

Today a highway broad is laid

To places far and near

Along the path he slowly made

--Thanks to the pioneer.

HE found a green and smiling plot,

And built a cabin there.

He reared a family on that spot

Hallowed by toil and care.

Today a broad, smooth roadway lies

Where, in a vanished year,

He wrought an empire with his hands

--Thanks to the pioneer_.
