_Separation of Sexes in Church_ (Vol. ii., p. 94.).--This custom appears to be of considerable antiquity. Sir Thomas More, in his _Utopia_ (p. 285. of the edition of 1639), says-- "When they be come thither, the men goe into the right side of the church, and the women into the left side."
