- Jack blushed. "I didn't think I could get any yet."
- He laughed. "Can't I have a car as well as anybody?"
- He laughed again. "Honest, I didn't steal it."
- She gasped. "Oh! How wonderful! For me!"
- She murmured softly: "My answer is no."
- Bobo turned a little pale. "What are you getting at?"
- Bobo nodded. "Fellow left his on a bench beside me."
- As the two young men left the café Bobo said: "Where are we going now?"
- Jack whistled. "There's nothing small about you."
- Kate frowned. "Must? To Mother? I can't do that."
- Kate laughed delicately. "Mercy, you're quite a mind-reader!"
- Bobo grinned like the Cheshire cat. "Did you miss me?"
- She snatched the hand away. "Horrible! You're no character-reader!"
- HARMON EVERS, WIGS AND THEATRICAL MAKEUP.
- Bobo at her heels said blankly: "I'll be jiggered!"
- Jack lied quickly. "None whatever."
- Jack smiled back no less sweetly. "But I have not released him."
- Jack was somewhat taken aback. "A little. I'm only a working-boy."
- Bobo was now weakening fast "What do you suppose her game is?"
- Jack glowered at her. "One would think I spread a contagion."
- He paused with his hand on the door-knob. "Nothing."
- Jack went up to them with glad smiles. "Hello! This is a surprise!"
- She laughed like icicles tinkling. "Hadn't you better wait until----"
- Jack thought: "Wouldn't leave him alone with me for a farm!"
- Tommy was melting fast. "On the level, do you want me to work for you?"
- Tommy was won. "Oh-h! Detective work! That's my specialty!"
- Bobo nodded again. "What else could I do?"
- A light broke on Jack. "Sure!" he cried. "Didn't recognize the name."
- BLAKELY, CHARLES EVANS
- DELAMARE, WALTER DE COURCY.
- Jack nodded. "His name is Berg. Is he dead?"
- The reply came in a tone no less dulcet: "How do you do, Mr. Robinson."
- The laugh sounded again. "Nothing is impossible! Think it over!"
- Jack laughed. "Poor Bobo!"
- KATE.
- The sergeant nodded towards Miriam. "How about her?"
