In the month of August, the Vulcanalia took place at Rome, streets were
illuminated, fires kindled, and animals thrown into the flames as a
sacrifice. Romulus caused a temple to be erected in his honour, and Tarquin
presented to him the arms and spoils of the conquered; and to him also, was
dedicated the lion.
