J. C. E. H.

'Believe me, we share in your great sorrow, and the regiment he loved

so well will miss him greatly, for everyone loved and respected

him--not alone for his great talents as a soldier, or for his

bravery, but for his lovableness, and great striving after the Right.

I personally feel as if I had lost a brother that can never be

replaced, but it is some consolation to you and all of us, to know

that he died, as he had lived--a very perfect Knight--for his Country

and in the cause of Righteousness and Truth.'
