- But the little birds sung outside,—
- So when the old witch saw her coming in with the milk, she cried out,—
- Then sung the little birds,—
- BUTTERCUP.
- So the boy ran out, and came back crying out,—
- So out he went, but he soon came back crying out,—
- So the old hag said to her daughter,—
- TAMING THE SHREW.
- SHORTSHANKS.
- Then she answered,—
- GUDBRAND ON THE HILL-SIDE.

- THE BLUE BELT.
- WHY THE BEAR IS STUMPY-TAILED.
- NOT A PIN TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM.
- Close by the town she met a butcher, who asked,—
- All the while the husband kept on screaming and calling out,—
- Peter looked first at the man, and then at the sky, and said,—
- ONE’S OWN CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS PRETTIEST.
- THE THREE PRINCESSES OF WHITELAND.
- But she was very woeful, and said to him,—

- THE THREE AUNTS.
- So up got the bride and made a curtsey, and said,—
- THE COCK, THE CUCKOO, AND THE BLACK-COCK.
- RICH PETER THE PEDLAR.
- BOOTS AND THE TROLL.

- But the third time Dapple said,—
- THE SEVEN FOALS.
- And when they had travelled a long long way, the Foal asked,—
- THE WIDOW’S SON.
- So one day the man said,—
- BUSHY BRIDE.
- So when she got home with her buckets, she bawled out to her mother—
- BOOTS AND HIS BROTHERS.
