The advowson of the parish church of Whalley having been bequeathed to the White Monks of Stanlawe (Cheshire), they removed their abbey {61} there A.D. 1206; it being dedicated to the Virgin Mary ("Locus Benedictus de Whalley"), and having about sixty indwellers. (Tanner's _Notitia_.)
