FAB. CCCCXXI.

An _Ass_ and a _Shadow_.

One Hir’d an _Ass_ in the _Dog-Days_ to carry certain Bails of Goods

to such a Town: ’Twas Extreme Hot, so that he lay down upon the way to

Refresh himself under the Shade of the _Ass_. The _Muletier_ Bad him

Rise, and go on According to his Bargain. T’other said, that the _Ass_

was His for the time he had Hir’d him. Right, says the other, You have

Hir’d the _Ass_, but not the _Shadow_.
