FAB. CCCXXXIV.

A _Pike_ sets up for _Sovereignty_.

There was a _Master-Pike_, that for his Bulk, Beauty and Strength, was

look’d upon to be the Prince of the River, but the Sovereignty of the

_Fresh Water_ would not Content him, it seems, unless he might Engross

to himself the Empire of the _Sea_ too. Upon this Ambitious Design,

he Launch’d out into the _Ocean_, and put up his Claim to’t; But a

Prodigious _Dolphin_ took This Encroachment upon his Right in such

Dudgeon, that he set upon the _Pike_; Gave him Chace, and Pursu’d him to

the Borders of his own Stream, Insomuch that the _Pike_ had enough to

do to Save Himself; and from that Time forward, he had the Wit to keep

within the Compass of his Own Dominions.

The MORAL.

_Ambition has no other Bounds then what Providence has Prescrib’d to it,

for the Good of Mankind._ Here shall thy Proud Waves Stay: _And there

must be No Passing Those Limits_.
