Insects may act as carriers of the spores of the blight fungus. Of a
total of 75 tested, many were found to be carrying spores. The maximum
number of spores of the blight fungus (336,900), was obtained from a
small beetle, (_Leptostylus maculata_), which has been mentioned as a
possible beneficial agent on account of its pustule-eating habits.
