SECOND SIEGE, A.C. 341.

The Byzantines were in great peril when Philip, the father of Alexander

the Great, besieged Perinthus. Byzantium having granted some succours

to that city, Philip divided his army, and laid siege to it likewise.

The Byzantines were reduced to the last extremity when Phocion came to

their assistance. The grateful Perinthians and Byzantines decreed a

crown of gold to the people of Athens.
