On the 8th, by order of the President, the troops operating in
Virginia were classed in Five Army Corps--the 5th comprised of Banks'
and Shields' Divisions, the 84th being assigned to the 2d Brigade
(Carroll), 2d Division (Shields), 5th Corps (Banks).
