Many of the prominent men who had a part in the making of Texas were
born and reared in the little historic town of Jefferson. Mrs. Anna
Hardwick Pennybacker was living in Jefferson and wrote the greater part
of her “History of Texas” while here. Her father, Dr. J. B. Hardwick,
was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson.
