LINES WRITTEN IMPROMPTU,

On a Lady's intimating a wish to see some verses of mine in the

Messenger.

A Lady requests me to write

Some lines for your Messenger's muse,

And I cannot be so impolite,

By any means, as to refuse.

So I scribble these words in my way,

In spite of Minerva, you see;

But Venus will smile on my lay,

And that is sufficient for me.
