By BLISS PERRY.
Salem Kittredge is a story about a theological student, a pretty girl
with active sympathies, and a young man addicted to drink. How these
characters stood affected by each other during a season at Bar Harbor,
is told with much spirit and skill. The other stories are crisp and
interesting, full of keen character drawing and a quick sense of human
nature.
"'Salem Kittredge' is one of the best short stories we have
read recently. There are eight other stories in the volume, all
good."—_Boston Advertiser._
