MALAR BONES. ZYGOMÆ

The malars among the Munsee are of moderate development throughout,

and none of the bones shows any complete or even appreciable partial

division or other anomaly. The zygomatic processes are rather submedium

in strength as compared with those of other Indians, particularly in

the males.

In one of the male skulls (no. 285,313) the right zygoma is represented

only by a pointed but otherwise unaltered base, the rest of the bone,

up to the malar suture, being absent. In all probability this condition

is the result of an old fracture, after which the larger part of the

zygoma was lost or remained separated.
