NOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE.

I have received from Wells, in Somersetshire, thirty pounds for the

St. George's Fund, the first money sent me by a stranger. For what has

been given me by my personal friends I will account to them privately;

and, henceforward, will accept no more given in their courteous

prejudice, lest other friends, who do not believe in my crotchets,

should be made uncomfortable. I am not quite sure if the sender of

this money from Somersetshire would like his name to appear in so

wide solitude; and therefore content myself with thus thanking him,

and formally opening my accounts.
