_Practice of Scalping_.--Your correspondent T. J. will find in Mr. Layard's

_Nineveh and its Remains_ (vol. ii. p. 374.) the following note:--

"The Scythians _scalped_ and flayed their enemies, and used their skins

as horse trappings."--_Herod._ iv. 64.
