Once a little round-faced clock lived on the desk of a man who wrote
stories. The clock had a chance to hear most of the stories. For when the
man finished a story he usually called a beautiful lady into the room and
read it to her. The beautiful lady laughed at the fun in the story and
the little clock’s face shone. But perhaps that is what a clean little
clock’s face always does.
One day the man read from the story, “The prince and the princess were
married just as the clock struck”—“One!” rang the little clock. Its heart
almost stopped beating; it had not meant to interrupt the story.
The beautiful lady cried, “Why, the clock knows the story.” But she
laughed as she said it.
What do you think about it?
